Windows 10 and Windows 11 end of support dates determine when Microsoft stops releasing security updates, bug fixes, and technical assistance for each version. Support Policy

Microsoft follows a Modern Lifecycle Policy for most consumer and enterprise editions. Windows 10 Home and Pro reached end of support on October 14, 2025. After this date, no security patches, non-security updates, or technical support are provided. Enterprise and Education editions receive extended support — typically +3 years beyond the consumer EOL.

Windows 11 shifted to an annual feature update cadence. Each release is supported for 24 months for Home/Pro and 36 months for Enterprise/Education. LTSC (Long Term Servicing Channel) editions receive 10+ years of support, making them the choice for embedded systems, medical devices, and mission-critical infrastructure.

Windows Server editions follow a separate 10-year lifecycle (5 years mainstream, 5 years extended). Server 2025, for example, will receive support through 2035.

FAQ

What happens after Windows 10 EOL?
After October 14, 2025, Microsoft stops providing security updates for Windows 10 Home and Pro. Your PC continues working but becomes vulnerable to new threats. Options include upgrading to Windows 11, purchasing Extended Security Updates (ESU) for up to 3 years, or switching to an alternative OS.
Can I still use Windows 10 after EOL?
Yes, your PC will continue to function. However, without security patches it is at higher risk of malware and exploits. Microsoft recommends upgrading to Windows 11 or replacing the hardware if the device is incompatible with Windows 11.
Do Windows 10 LTSC versions have different EOL dates?
Yes. LTSC releases receive 10 years of support. Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 is supported until January 2032, and IoT LTSC editions may have even longer lifecycles depending on the agreement.
