Ubuntu LTS Release & EOL Schedule (2026)
Ubuntu LTS releases are the most widely used Linux distribution for servers, cloud workloads, and developer desktops. Each LTS ships with five years of free security updates, extendable to 12 years with Ubuntu Pro. Knowing the release and EOL schedule helps plan upgrades, maintain compliance, and avoid running unsupported systems.

Support Policy
Canonical releases a new LTS every two years in April. Each LTS gets five years of standard security maintenance for the main repository, free for everyone. With Ubuntu Pro (free for up to 5 machines), coverage extends to 10 years including the universe repository. Ubuntu Pro also adds 10-year ESM (Extended Security Maintenance) for 25,000+ packages, automated patching via Livepatch, and compliance tooling.
Interim releases (non-LTS) ship every six months (October and April) and receive only 9 months of support. They are suitable for testing and development but not production.
